Essie McCormick Gilley, 89, of 1102 Stadium Drive, passed peacefully to be with her Lord on Sunday evening, May 27, 2012 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, May 31, at Danview Cemetery.
Mrs. Gilley was born October 23, 1922 in Luninburg County, Virginia, daughter of the late George E. and Nannie Bell Spencer McCormick. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by four daughters, Elaine Land and husband, Tony of Eden, Sandra Willoughby and husband, Claytor of Bedford, VA, Deloras Willoughby and husband, Ronnie of Eden and Glenda Gillie Silvers and husband, Raymond of Eden; four sons, Leroy Gilley and wife, Mary of Bladenboro, Bill Gilley and wife, Debra of English, IN, Sam Gilley and wife, Sandy of Chula Vista, CA, and Clyde Gilley, Jr. and wife, Sylvia of Mayodan; 65 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; and sister, Elsie Alderman of Eden.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Gilley, Sr. in 1998.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, 6 - 8 PM at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home of the daughter, Elaine Land at 504 Round House Road in Eden.

My Great Aunt has gone to heaven. She was very amazing women to me. She help me realize what life was all about. How to rise my children up right and make them do right. She helped my parents to rise us. I loved to sit and hear her tell me story of life grow up. That I papa boy named Sue.She will be truly missed. But she is in God Hand Now that gives me comfort. I know that is with her sister Reva Curry my grandmother and the rest of the family gone on before us.Praying for all the Family for comfort.

Grandma, I love you and you will be misssed dearly. I have so many fond memories from the time when I was in elementary school and you would play duck hunt with us to where you came to my wedding 11 years ago. I wish I could have spent more time with you, but the many phone calls kept next to you. Love you!!
