Evelyn Marie Howard of Eden, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning August 2, 2011. Funeral service will be held 10 am Thursday August 4, 2011 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Craig Bowman officiating and burial will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Gardens. Evelyn was born in Highland Park, Michigan on February 11, 1921 , to the late Dewey and Margorie Gosch. She was the oldest of four children, Donald Gosch, Helen Wortley (both deceased) and Eunice Eckardt of Lake Odessa, Michigan. Evelyn lived in Michigan all of her life and was a long time member of Calvary Baptist Church, Hazel Park, Michigan until moving to Eden, N.C. in 2005 and she then became a member of First Baptist Church of Eden. She is survived by her husband Jonah (Jon) S. Howard, three daughters- Sheila Gordon, Eden Prairie, Minnisota, Janet Lingo, Georgetown, Kentucky, Judy Allmacher (Mike) Romeo, Michigan and two sons, Tim Howard and wife Janice of Houston, Texas, Dr. Kevin Howard and wife Laurie, of Eden, N.C.. She has fourteen grandchildren, twenty seven great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren and all of her brothers and sisters in Christ who have blessed her life with caring and love. Much thanks to Dr. Kenneth Karb, Dr. Paul Sasser and Dr. Kevin Howard for their dedication and care. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8:30 pm at Fair Funeral Home on Wednesday evening. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to First Baptist Church, 533 Greenwood Street, Eden, NC 27288 or Hospice of Rockingham County, P.O. Box 281, Wentworth, NC 27375. When I first came into the family, I remember going to Thanksgiving dinner at Aunt Eunice's. My now husband LeRoy told me he had an aunt who was very talkative. Well...I will have you know, that he was right, she loved to talk. Everyone else at the table was already done eating and she had barely started her meal. She had so much to share with all of us since we didn't get together that often. She always brought pictures of her family to share and of any travels that she and Jon had done. It was always exciting to be together, you never knew what kind of information you would go home with. She may have been a great talker, but she was also a wonderful listener too.
