Jerald Leonard Jeffries

Print   Print Obituary with Picture

Jerald Leonard Jeffries, 73, of 220 Pratt Road, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, May 30, at First Baptist Church of Draper. Burial will follow in Danview Cemetery. The family has shared that Jerald's request was for vintage car enthusiasts to drive those cars to his funeral in honor of their mutual interest. Mr. Jeffries was born May 8, 1938 in Draper, NC, son of the late James E. and Helen Rowsey Jeffries. Mr. Jeffries served his country for 33 1/2 years with the Army National Guard, reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant. His unit was activated during Desert Storm. Mr. Jeffries was a retiree of Fieldcrest Mills after 33 years with that company. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Draper where he participated in numerous activities with his church as well as serving as an usher. His love for his church, family, and country was very deeply rooted, as was his hobby of old cars. His traditional style of hot rods and customs stem from the 50's era where parts were found or fabricated to interchange with the cars he built. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Gwen Hopkins Jeffries of the home; two sons, James "Jamey" M. Jeffries and Christopher "Chris" M. Jeffries and wife, Wendy; and four grandchildren, Paul J. Jeffries, Olivia B. Jeffries, Alex C. Jeffries, and N. Levi Hale. The family will receive friends Sunday evening, 7 - 9 PM at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the residence. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.fairfuneralhome.com

Gwen & Family, We walked into church Sunday morning and it was just not the same without Jerald. And today when we served lunch for the family...we missed him being there helping us...we had to find someone else to make the coffee because "Jerald did that". Everyone loved him and he will be greatly missed. We are praying for your strength and comfort in the days ahead. The greatest comfort is we will see him again! We love you all.

Gwen and family, We are so sorry for your loss, but, we all know Jerald is in a much better place than we are. He was a good friend to Duck for many years and he shared his love for old cars. Duck always talked about how good Jerald was at building those cars. His Lincoln was a beautiful car and I know he was so proud of it. He will be missed by many. But, as the song says...No more sickness, no more pain...and forever I will be with the one who died for me..what a day...glorius day that will be...and you all know you will see him again. If we can help any of the family, please let us know. God Bless and keep you, Duck and Karen Lemons
