Obituary For Jerald Leonard Jeffries

Jerald Leonard Jeffries, 73, of 220 Pratt Road, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, May 30, at First Baptist Church of Draper. Burial will follow in Danview Cemetery. The family has shared that Jerald's request was for vintage car enthusiasts to drive those cars to his funeral in honor of their mutual interest. Mr. Jeffries was born May 8, 1938 in Draper, NC, son of the late James E. and Helen Rowsey Jeffries. Mr. Jeffries served his country for 33 1/2 years with the Army National Guard, reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant. His unit was activated during Desert Storm. Mr. Jeffries was a retiree of Fieldcrest Mills after 33 years with that company. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Draper where he participated in numerous activities with his church as well as serving as an usher. His love for his church, family, and country was very deeply rooted, as was his hobby of old cars. His traditional style of hot rods and customs stem from the 50's era where parts were found or fabricated to interchange with the cars he built. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Gwen Hopkins Jeffries of the home; two sons, James "Jamey" M. Jeffries and Christopher "Chris" M. Jeffries and wife, Wendy; and four grandchildren, Paul J. Jeffries, Olivia B. Jeffries, Alex C. Jeffries, and N. Levi Hale. The family will receive friends Sunday evening, 7 - 9 PM at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
