Doris Culver Owen, age 89, of 1425 Delaware Ave. Eden, NC passed away early Friday morning August 2, 2013 at Big Elm Nursing Center in Kannapolis, NC.
A funeral service will be held 2 pm Monday at First United Methodist Church of Draper with burial to follow at Ridgeview Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Owen was born September 20, 1923 in Washington DC to the late Grover and Mary Culver. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and was a homemaker who also was an accomplished seamtress and enjoyed making crafts.
Surviving are daughters; Marie Alexander of Concord, NC; Mary Catherine Barnett of Gaithersburg, MD; Patricia Jane Howes and husband William of Bowie, MD; Jeannette Louise Watson and husband Ted of Fair Grove, MO; son, Joseph S. Owen, Jr. and wife Elaine of Queen Anne, MD.; 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death along with her parents by husband, Joseph Santford Owen, Sr.,a son, Robert Edward Owen and grandson, James Whit Alexander.
A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at First United Methodist Church.

My prayers are with the family as I know that Doris is not in need of our prayers as she is in the presence of the ANSWER. I have had the privilege to minister to Doris and others there at Big Elm for years that have made the lives of those like myself who are younger easier. I believe that Doris's generation was the greatest generation and it has been displayed by their love for God and treatment of those around them.

Although I am no longer part of the family, I would like to extend my sincere thoughts to each of the Owens at the passing of Doris this past Friday.
