James "Marty" Martin Self, 61, of 409 Greenway Drive in Eden, passed away Wednesday evening, June 12, 2013, at his home.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, June 15, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Danview Cemetery.
A native of Rockingham County, Marty was born February 11, 1952. He was a US Air Force veteran and was employed by Lorillard Tobacco Company. Marty was an avid UNC fan and Alabama football fan, as well as a lover of golf.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Burnett Self, of the home; daughter, Jennifer Parker and husband, Bryan; sons, Mike Travis and wife, Jan and John Doyle and wife, Pam, all of Eden; his father, John Self, of the home; a granddaughter, Breanna Parker; four grandsons, Cody and Jackson Travis and Josh and Jonathan Doyle; brother John Self-Medlin and wife, Brenda of Gainesville, FL; and sister, Debby Scott and husband, Gary of Warsaw, NC.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jane Nelson Self; and brother, Roy Self.
The family will receive friends Friday evening, 6 - 8 PM, at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
