Richard "Preston" McNeely, 86, of 443 Chestnut Street in Eden, passed away Sunday evening, February 24, 2013, at Morehead Memorial Hospital.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, February 27, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel with his nephew, Pastor Richard Jones presiding. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Mr. McNeely was born September 22, 1926 in Spray, NC, son of the late Richard and Agnes Cook McNeely. He was a a US Navy World War II veteran and worked as a sales representative for Karastan Service Center. Afterwards, he ran McNeely Rest Home for 17 years which was located on Glovenia Street in Eden. He later worked at the Kings Highway Texaco and at the Shell station on Highway 135.

He is survived by his son, James "Bud" H. McNeely and wife, Kaye of Eden; step-daughter, Linda Hill Jeffries of Eden; special lifetime friend and caregiver, Bobby Lindon Priddy of Priddy loop, Stoneville; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; 4 nephews and 2 nieces.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1 til 2 pm at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home of his niece, Jean Eastwood, 319 Greenwood Street, Eden,NC. Friends may come by the funeral home and pay their respects and sign the register Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning prior to the formal visitation if they wish.

Mr McNeely was a good neighbor. My family moved into the neighborhood a few years ago, and I will always remember Preson and Bob welcoming us. He will be missed. I am sorry for your loss. I hope that time will bring peace and comfort to family and friends. God Bless.

To the McNeely, I am very sorry to learn of Preston's death. Preston would always visit my dad Herman Pyron while he was in the Morehead Nursing Home. Mom was always so glad to see him, they would hug and kiss each other, because my mother is Preston's aunt, (Agnes sister). He was a very kind and gentle man.
