Bessie Kingery Slaughter, 90, of 438 Decatur Street in Eden, passed away Thursday evening, January 24, 2013 at her home.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, January 27, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Ridgeview Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Slaughter was born September 4, 1922 in Franklin County, VA. She was a member of Aiken Summit Wesleyan Methodist Church and a retiree of Spray Cotton Mill.

She is survived by her three sons, Luke Slaughter and wife, Nancy of Eden, George Slaughter and wife, Robin of Axton, VA and Roger Slaughter of Eden; two daughters, Kathy Hodgson and husband, Ron of Eden and Bonnie Jarrell, also of Eden; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jack Hodges and Lloyd Hodges, both of Rocky Mount, VA; and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Slaughter.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Jasper Lee Slaughter; sons, Bill Slaughter and Timothy Slaughter and daughter, Nancy Slaughter.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening, 6 - 8 PM at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, Kathy Hodgson, 527 John Street in Eden.
