Jerry Allen Oakes, 69, of 411 Monroe Street in Eden, passed away Thursday night, January 3, 2013, at Valley Nursing Center in Taylorsville.
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, January 12, at Friendship Baptist Church in Greensboro.
Mr. Oakes was born July 24, 1943 in Greensboro, NC, son of the late Robert Franklin and Clara Reeves Oakes. He was a US Army veteran and was self-employed as a carpenter.
He is survived by his wife, Susan McMath Oakes of the home; daughter, Jere Kannegieter and husband, Dustin of Lexington, NC; five grandchildren, Brianna, Dylan, Taylor, Olivia and Katrina; brother, Rev. Jack Oakes and wife, Betty; and two sisters, Faye Dillon and Barbara Pegg and his Poodle, Pooter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Larry, Clyde, Roy and Kenneth Oakes.
