George Carey Swain, Jr., 86, formerly of Arbor Ridge, passed away Thursday night, January 3, 2013, at Morehead Nursing Center.

A graveside service will be held at 2 PM on Monday, January 7, at Ridgeview Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Swain was born August 29, 1926 in Fuqua-Varina, NC, son of the late George Carey Swain, Sr. and Eunice True Swain. He graduated from George Washington High School in Danville, VA, before being drafted by the US Army. He was a World War II Army veteran having earned the Bronze Star. Mr. Swain had worked at Clute Insurance early in his career and was a retiree of Karastan Mills. After his retirement, he worked several years for Wright Mini Storage, alongside his wife. He was a member of Mt. Vernon Methodist Church in Danville, VA.

He is survived by his sons, Jon Richard Swain of Reidsville and David James (Jimmy) Swain and wife, Shannon of Denver, NC; three daughters, Deborah Swain Prescott and husband, James, Holly Swain Parsons, of Eden and Donna Lee Wilson and husband, Mark of Fayetteville; 11 grandchildren, Krista and Joshua Swain, Beth Ashburn, Connor and Carson Swain, Emily and Will Prescott, Alex and Austin Parsons, Darren and Brenden Wilson; three great-grandchildren; brother, James (Jimmy) Swain and wife, Bobbye of Danville, VA; and his beloved cat, Gigi.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Swain; son, George Carey Swain, III; and brother Jon Wycliffe Swain.

Visitation will be held on Sunday evening, 6 - 8 PM at Fair Funeral home and other times at the home of his daughter, Holly, at 313 Glendale Circle in Eden.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Morehead Nursing Center for the excellent care they provided.
