Margaret Smith Grant, 88, of 906 Second Street in Eden, passed away Thursday, September 20, 2012 at her home.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, September 22, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Overlook Cemetery.

A native of Rockingham County, Mrs. Grant was born June 20, 1924. She was the daughter of James Andrew Smith and Oma Josephine Ore Smith. She was a member of Central Baptist Church and a retired cook with Rockingham County Schools.

She is survived by her son Coy "C.D." Grant, Jr. and wife, Viviane of Eden; daughter, Linda Meeks and husband, Calvin; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; brother, Calvin Smith and wife, Edith of Eden; daughter-in-law, Suzanne Grant; and Tommy Curry, nephew, whom she considered her son.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Coy D. Grant and son, "Jimmy" Grant.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday (1 - 2PM) at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home of C. D. Grant at 314 Moir Street in Eden.

She had a long and brave fight and while I am so very sorry that she isn't here with you hlhteay and well I think we all know for a fact that she is in complete and utter joy and bliss right now, free from the struggles and pain that we her constant companion for a long time. It is a blessing to know without a doubt that she is with the Lord and that you will be with her again someday. I cannot imagine the pain of losing a parent and hope you know that we are here for you for anything you need now, or will need as you go forward. Our prayers will continue to be with you.
