Deeward "Cookie" Allen Bateman, 81, of 416 George Bateman Drive in Ridgeway, passed away Monday, September 17, 2012, at his home.
A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, September 20, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Eden, NC.
Mr. Bateman was born September 27, 1930 in Leaksville, NC, son of the late George Allen and Daisy Ann Curry Bateman. He was a US Marine veteran and a retired quality control worker for Anaconda, Incorporated.
He is survived by his daughters, Sheri Cochran, Lisa Bateman, Kathy Powell and Pamela Taylor; sons, Derwood Bateman, Daniel Bateman, Kevin Bateman and Steven Bateman; 21 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and six sisters, Doris McClung, Mary Bowman, Louise Nance, Elizabeth Stone, Nancy Coleman and Mildred Adams.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Malcolm Kenneth Bateman and Michael Richard Bateman; sister, Katherine B. Fisher; and two brothers, Kenneth Bateman and Vurble L. Bateman.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, 6 - 8 PM at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home of Yvonne Bateman at 483 George Bateman Drive in Ridgeway

Though I never met Mr. Bateman, we are probably related. His father, George Bateman was (as far as I know) a cousin to my late grandmother, Elizabeth Bateman Adkins of Leaksville. May God bless the Bateman family in their loss.
