Jesse Taylor Newman, 82, of 148 Landfill Road, passed away Monday, April 9, 2012, at Jacobs Creeks Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Mayodan, NC.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, April 12, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Overlook Cemetery.

A native of Rockingham County, Mr. Newman was born May 10, 1929, son of the late Jesse James Newman and Nannie Robertson Newman. He was a US Army veteran serving as a military police officer during the Korean War. Mr. Newman was a member of Spray Baptist Church. He retired from Karastan Rug Mill after 51 years of service.

He is survived by his two sons, James Perkins and wife, Judy of Eden and Chris Newman of Roxboro; grandson, Matthew Perkins of Eden; mother-in-law, Virginia Tucker of Eden; sister, Mae Stump and husband, Lewis of Eden; brother Ronald Newman and wife, Linnie of Eden; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Catherine Newman; and several siblings.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, 7 - 9 PM at Fair Funeral Home and other times at 120 Amanda Lane, home of his son, James.

Dear Family Of Mr. Jesse Newman I enjoyed knowing Jesse at Karastan Rug Mill, Mohawk Industries. Jesse was a very hard worker, a good inspector and a fine guy to have known and been around.
