Travis and Ryan, My heart goes out to you, Mama Judie will forever be a thought in my head. She was one of my greatest teachers and friend at SHS. She taught me so much and gave me so many laughs in drama. I was so shocked to hear of your loss and her passing. She is now flying high singing and is Gods new pianist at the pearly gates. I wished I could come Wednesday but I am 5 hours away on the Outer Banks and live in Va Beach now. She will be missed and loved by all of the students that she touched through the years.

I am so sorry to hear of Judie's passing. She was my favorite teacher in all of my school years. She always had an open ear and an available shoulder for her students, a rare find in today's world. She persuaded me to join the Yearbook staff, where I discovered my love of writing and photography. I went on to major in Journalism at UNCG, and I'd like to give her the credit for that. Thinking of all of you during this hard time, and praying for the family, friends, and all of the people she touched, which I know is many!

God has blessed me so richly with many wonderful friends to love me and cheer me on in this life. At the top of the list, is my dear friend Judie Martin. We spent so many hours together on church and school projects, she helping me and I helping her. There were also a lot of times together just being "friends". For many years, if you saw her, not far away you would see our mutual good friend Sheri Hopkins and myself ("The Three Muskateers"). We shared so much and supported each other. It was hard to see her so sick the last few months. I know she is well now, in the presence of our Lord. I will sorely miss her. "Friends are friends forever if the Lord's the Lord of them." BFF

A wave of emotions finally overwhelmed me Tuesday morning, and my sadness at the passing of my lifelong friend and "second mom" is surpassed only by the peace that she is whole once again. Long after she was my teacher, Judie was my friend, my writing coach, my mentor, my biggest fan,...and she referred to me as her "Jiminy Cricket." I think I coined the nickname "Heavy Duty Judie (HDJ)" and was one of the few brave enough to use it. She always threatened to body-slam me, but I knew she was a pushover from the day she gave me her Monte Carlo keys in high school without asking me if I had my driver's license yet. Judie played for my wedding, attended my graduation from Carolina, showed up for my surprise 25th anniversary celebration. My girls learned to love her as much as I did. She ate in our home (and our restaurant) and cooked for me more times than I can count. But I have no doubt that the best thing Judie ever did for me was to pray for me. I will never forget her love, her prayers and her tireless example of what a Christ-follower should be. I will see you soon, dear friend.

Travis and Ryan, I am so sorry to hear about your mother. She was truly one of a kind. I pulled out my yearbook tonight to read what she had written there 27 years ago--two pages of encouragement, praise, advice, and good memories. She gave me my first "real" job--Editor. The pay was nothing and the work was challenging, but the lessons learned have paid dividends in my life. She made an impact on many lives. I cannot be there tonight to offer my condolences in person, but please know that you will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I worked for Judie as a tutor at RCC for several years. She was a friend and mentor to me as well as one of the biggest reasons I was able to work up the courage to pursue a teaching career of my own. I will miss her always!

My sympathy to Judie's family. She and I were adjuncts in Freshman English at Rockingham Community College in night school, and we often shared office space. She was a friendly, talented, and caring teacher. Her warm personality was inviting to students who needed help and to her co-workers as well. She will be missed by many who loved and respected her. Count me as one of those.

I was so very sorry to hear of your mother's passing. I worked with her at RCC, and I found her to be very interested in the students. She took the "LAC", later called the AT3 writing lab very seriously, and I am sure the students she helped at RCC are very sorry about her untimely death. Both my wife and I offer our sincere condolences. Sally and Curtis Vick

Dear Travis,Kennedy, Aubrey, Molly, Ryan, and family: I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. Jamie and I will be keeping you in our prayers. Judie was a real treasure and will be missed very much. The first time I met her was at RCC in 2001 at the Learning Assistance Center as a tutor. Then she had a heart attack and was absent for awhile, so I didn't know her much then. I didn't really get to know her until later on 2003 or 2004ish onward. I grew up going to church, and I believed that Jesus died for our sins, but prior to meeting Judie, they were just words, there was no real meaning behind them. Judie definitely changed my view of God/Jesus and the Bible. I enjoyed asking her questions about Bible related stuff. She was a wealth of knowledge and faith. There is so much I could write about her, but I imagine there is a character limit on these, so I digress. She will be missed very much, but there is no doubt in my mind we will all see her again one day <3

Travis, Ryan and extended family, there are really no words that can ease the pain associated with losing your mother but hopefully knowing how she touched so many lives along the way will confort you in the days ahead. I will never forget my senior year at SHS and it was that time of the year when she announced what play we would be doing and it was "Fiddler on the Roof". She had told us that it would take dedication and a lot of hard work to pull this off because normally high school drama students didn't attempt a play such as this. She encouraged me to try out for the female lead "Golde" and I did and I got the part. Stage fright and the fear of failing was consuming me at this point but she knew that the only way to over come this was to face it head on. She played such an important part during my teenage years that definitely contributed to the person I am today. Thank you for sharing your mother with the rest of us for all those years!!
