James "Jimmy" Grant, 56, of 112 Big Rock Lane in Stoneville, passed away Sunday morning, March 11, 2012 at Hospice Home of Rockingham County in Wentworth.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, March 14, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Ridgeview Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Grant was born April 20, 1955 in Rockingham County. He was employed by Stevens Fire Equipment and was the retired Fire Chief of Shiloh Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife, Suzanne Martin Grant of the home; daughters, Julie E. Grant and fiance', Justin S. Philpot, and Amber M. Grant, both of Stoneville; mother, Margaret Smith Grant; brother, C. D. Grant and wife, Viviane of Eden; sister, Linda Meeks and husband, Calvin of Eden; and his beloved dog and cat, Trixie and Pepper.

Mr. Grant was preceded in death by his father, Coy D. Grant.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, 6 - 8 PM at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home of his daughter, 5734 Business 220 North, Stoneville.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Tommy Curry and Justin Philpot for their devotion to Jimmy until the end.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Rockingham County, 2150 Hwy 65, Wentworth, NC 27375 or to Shiloh Volunteer Fire Department, 3320 Settle Bridge Road, Stoneville, NC 27048.

We grew up with Jimmy he was good to everyone he knew he served his community for years with his lawn mower shop in Eden then as Fire Chief with station 120.He has gone home now and we shall see him again someday.
