William Emerson Dixon age 74 of 734 Bryant Street, Eden passed away on Wednesday December 28, 2011 at Hospice Home of Rockingham County. Funeral service will be held 2 pm Saturday at Fair Funeral Home Chapel and burial to follow in Overlook Cemetery with Military rites performed by the Rockingham County Veterans Honor Guard and the NC National Guard. William was born May 30, 1937 in Pittsylvania County, VA to the late John Smith Dixon and Gracie Inman Dixon. He grew up in Brosville, VA and attended Brosville schools and later graduated from Rockingham Community College. Mr Dixon was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving active duty from 1961-1963 and Army reserves until 1967. He retired form American Tobacco Company in 1993 and after his retirement he pursued his love of classic car restoration and enjoyed car shows, cruise-ins and flea markets. He was preceded in death along with his parents by a sister, Margie Garrett and two brothers; Gene and Nelson Dixon. Surviving is his wife of 53 years Dovie Frith Dixon of the home and daughter; Robin Dixon of Eden, sister; Judy Phelps and brother John Dixon, Jr. both of Danville. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 6-8 pm at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home. Online condolences may offered to the family at www.fairfuneralhome.com

Dixon Family, I worked with Bill at ATC and I had no idea that he was not well. I was thinking of him before Christmas and how I'd like to see him again. The picture is how I remember him, always smiling. I'm sure he's had a hard time but he will always be remembered be me, and I'm sure, by all as a good man, and a real pleasure to know.
