Nancy Carol Stovall Powell, 76, of 215 Taft Street, Eden, died Saturday, December 17, 2011, at Hospice Home of Rockingham County. Graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, December 21, at Ridge-View Memorial Gardens. Nancy was born October 15, 1935, in the Meadow Summit area of Eden, the daughter of the late George Thomas and Carrie Ethel Houchins Stovall. She was a 1953 graduate of the former Tri-City High School, now Morehead High School, and later graduated from a secretarial school in Martinsville, VA, that evolved into National College. A member of First Baptist Church of Eden, she worked 18 years as an office employee at the Eden YMCA, from which she retired, and previously worked many years in offices at Fieldcrest Mills. Among her favorite activities were reading, shopping and taking care of her cat, "Pretty Boy." Surviving are her son, Mickey W. Powell, Jr. of Eden; and her sister, Dr. Judy Stovall Rivenbark and husband, Bill Rodgers, of Fernandina Beach, FL. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mickey W. Powell, Sr., who passed away earlier this year. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, 6 - 8 PM at Fair Funeral Home. There will be no visitation at the residence. Flowers are welcome, or memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Rockingham County, PO Box 281, Wentworth, NC 27375 or to a charity of the donor's choice. Dear Mickey, I just wanted you to know that I always thought your mother was such a sweet woman. I remember her from when I was young and I would go to the YMCA everyday after school, she made a point to speak to me and make me feel important! She always had a smile on her face!
