Our loving Mother, Wife, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, and Friend was called to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ on December 16, 2011 after a long and brave battle with cancer. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, December 19, at Floral Gardens Chapel in High Point. Pastor Mike Ferguson is officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Garden Cemetery. Maxcine, 82, born March 31, 1929, daughter of the late Ernest and Carrie Liner Gibson of High Point, NC. She and her family spent their earlier years in Thomasville and eventually moved to High Point where she lived next door to and eventually married the love of her life, Darrell (Cotton) Cecil in April 1943. He preceded her in death September 15, 2001. She attended the Church of God of Prophecy in High Point. Surviving are her 10 children, Pamela Siegel and husband, Ron of Massachusetts, Larrie May, Carrie Martin and husband, Les, David Cecil and wife, Ann of Greensboro, Darrell (Chipper) Cecil and friend, Mary Howell of California, Jana Bailey and husband, Jim of Greensboro, Kimberly Irby and husband, Dave of Florida, Kenneth Cecil of Madison, Constance Conn and husband, Rob of South Carolina, and Tommy Cecil and wife, Jan of Florida. Also surviving are two sisters, Betsy Laughlin and husband, Donald of Thomasville and Colleen Copple of Winston-Salem. She leaves behind to cherish her memory many, many friends, 20 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two more that are due in February; and many relatives who will miss her precious smile and loving ways. The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff of the Regional Cancer Center and staff at Wesley Long including the Emergency Department and Palliative Care Unit who helped make her life during the last days pain free. Special thanks to Dr. Peter Rubin, Mary Wegenka, and Dr. Mohammed of WLCH who have been with us from the very beginning and Pastor Mike Ferguson of Thomasville and Pastor J. R. Gossett of Greensboro. In lieu of flowers, Maxcine had requested any contributions be made to the Regional Cancer Center, the American Cancer Society, or Hospice and Palliative Care, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405, in her name to help with research. Cancer is a nasty violent beast that has no mercy for anyone and she would like to know she made a difference in seeking a cure. I was sad to see that Mrs. Cecil passed away. I remember going to visit at the Cecil home with my Dad, Bill Hunter. Mrs. Cecil was always so kind. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time.
