Rev. Thomas Granville Mitchell, age 72 of 835 Grand Oaks Drive, Eden, went home to be with his Lord, on Wednesday afternoon November 23, 2011 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem. A Funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Fair Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Ridgeview Memorial Gardens. Rev. Mitchell was born June 29, 1939 in Bassett, Virginia to the late Henry and Doris Minter Mitchell. He was in the ministry for over 50 years and was the Pastor at Victory Baptist Church in Eden for the last 18 years. Preceding him in death along with his parents were two brothers, Cecil and Hadyn. Surviving him is his wife, Shirley Thompson Mitchell of the home; son, Mark Mitchell and wife Theresa of Hickory, N.C.; daughter, Suzanne Catalano and husband Tim of Mebane, NC; daughter, Sandra Jones and husband Jeff of Plain City, Ohio; ; brother, Kenneth Mitchell and wife Elsie; sister, Carolyn Thomas and husband James; and sister-in-law, Elva Mitchell all of Bassett; grandchildren, Thomas, Sarah, Ryan, Alex, Andrew, Karliana and Matthew; great grandchild, Emma Family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 6 til 8 p.m. at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home. I was very saddened to learn of Rev. Mitchell's death. I have many fond memories of him at Cherrystone Youth Camp in Callands, VA when he used to come and be one of the visiting ministers. My sister and I worked in the "kitchen" several weeks one summer and Rev. Mitchell used to come in and make "fried apple pies." I also remember him being at King Memorial Baptist Church several times when Dr. Sellars was pastor there. May your many good memories of him carry you through your difficult time.
