Thomas Shelton, 86, of 609 Morgan Ford Road passed away Tuesday afternoon, December 22, 2009 at Blue Ridge Rehab Center in Martinsville, VA. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, December 24 at Fair Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Mr. Shelton was born June 8, 1923 in in Patrick County, VA, son of the late James and Sally Chaney Shelton. He was a US Army veteran and a member of Fairview Baptist Church. Mr. Shelton was retired from Fieldcrest Mills. Surviving are his daughters, Mary Jane Turner and husband, Gene of Axton, VA and Shirley Overby and husband, Dennis of Ridgeway, VA; sons, T. J. Shelton and wife, Kathy of Ridgeway, Ronnie Joe Shelton of Fieldale, Ricky Shelton and wife, Shirley of Ridgeway and Freddie Shelton of Ridgeway; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Curry Shelton; daughter, Rosie Lee "Pee Wee" Shelton; and brothers, Calvin, Dave, George, Arthur and Hugo Shelton. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service (1 - 2 PM) at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home of his daughter, Shirley Overby, 211 Tyler Place in Ridgeway.
