John Clyde Borland, age 99, of 317 Rhodes Road in Eden, passed away Monday, October 3, 2011 at his home. A graveside service will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, October 6, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. A native of Rockingham County, Mr. Borland was born February 29, 1912, son of the late Roy Lorenzo and Jennie Sue Carroll Borland. He was a World War II Army veteran where he served as a medical technician for the 96 Field Hospital. He served in CBI Theater (China Burmese India Theater) and in Haifong, North Vietnam. There he received a bronze service star. Mr. Borland served our country for 30 months. He was a member of Osborne Baptist Church where he held many offices over the years to include treasurer and bell ringer. Mr. Borland retired from American Tobacco Company in 1975 after more than 44 years with the company. Surviving are his daughter-in-law, Audrey Borland of Reidsville; four grandchildren, Julia B. Sparks and husband, Phillip, James Borland and wife, Tammy, Jerry Borland and Jennie B. Still and husband, Robert; five great-grandchildren, Daniel Sparks and wife, Lisa, Hannah Sparks, Amber Still, Ivy Borland, and Anthony Borland; four step-grandchildren, Jason Rusilko, Ryan Hazuga, Travis Hazuga and Nikita Hazuga. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Navassa Parks Borland; son, Ronald P. Borland; and grandson, John P. Borland. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, 7 - 9 PM at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home of Audrey Borland, 1165 Ashley Loop in Reidsville. Memorial contributions may be made to Rockingham County Council on Aging (Meals on Wheels), PO Box 1915, Reidsville, NC 27320.
