Gordon C. Pruitt, 79, of 253 Long Road in Eden, passed away Monday morning, October 3, 2011 at Morehead Memorial Hospital. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, October 6, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Ridgeview Memorial Gardens. Mr. Pruitt was born July 7, 1932 in Leaksville, NC, son of the late Sandy and Mamie Aheron Pruitt. He was a charter member of People"s Church of the Living God in Bassett, VA where he had attended for 21 years. Mr. Pruitt was a retiree of Fieldcrest Mills (Pillowtex). Surviving are his wife, Barbara Jean Evans Pruitt of the home; three sons, Douglas Pruitt and wife, Cynthia of Eden, Dennis Pruitt and wife, Judy of Eden and Dwayne Pruitt and wife, Patricia of Bassett, VA; daughter Diane Smith and husband, Tim of Eden; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and brother, Calvin Pruitt and wife, Peggy of Durham. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, 6 - 8 PM at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the residence. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.fairfuneralhome.com
