Joan Cassell Shields, 69, of 1020 Virginia Street, passed away Monday, June 27, 2011 at Annie Penn Memorial Hospital in Reidsville. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 30, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Overlook Cemetery. A native of Rockingham County, Mrs. Shields was born March 22, 1942, daughter of the late Kyle and Edna Mae Cassell Hall. She was a former waitress for several of the area restaurants, to include Margre Restaurant, Reid's House, Joses, and Balise Restaurant. Surviving is her husband, William Shields of the home; sons, Bobby Shields and wife, Reda of Eden and Steven Shields, also of Eden; two grandsons, Jacob and Joshua Shields; brother, Harold Junior Hall of Reidsville; sister-in-law, Linda Cassell of Eden; cousin, Lucille Finney of Bassett, VA and other numerous cousins. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service (10 - 11 a.m.) on Thursday morning at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Bobby, Reda, Josh, Jacob, We were really sorry to hear of your loss. It is hard to lose someone so special to you. The only thing that has gotten me through is your loss is her eternal gain.
