Margie Heffinger Adkins Rogue, of Eden, North Carolina, left the earth unexpectedly on Monday, April 22, 2024 at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, NC. She was 86.

A funeral service will be held at Noon on Saturday April, 27, 2024 at Fair Funeral Home Chapel, Eden, NC. A visitation will be held at 11am before the service. Burial will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Gardens.

Margie was born in Leaksville (Eden), NC in 1938 to parents Hattie Cook Heffinger and Andrew Thomas Heffinger.

After high school at Stoneville High, Margie worked at E.I. Dupont in Martinsville, VA as a textile inspector. She attended Rockingham Community College and worked as a substitute teacher for Stoneville schools.

Margie loved gardening, orchids and her beautiful irises. This inspired her to be a past member and president of the Stoneville Garden club. She loved art and enjoyed expressing this love through painting. Over the years, she shared her creations with many family and friends.

She and her husband of 38 years, Garfield (Scoop) Adkins enjoyed traveling and taking cruises around the Caribbean. Scoop had served in the US Navy during WW2 and they enjoyed attending his ship reunions for the USS Oberon, an active community of former navy veterans and their families. When Scoop passed away suddenly, she continued to participate with the group for support. There she connected with Francis (Frank) Rogue, a friend and former USS Oberon veteran of the Korean war. She found love again with him and they married.

Frank introduced Margie to ham radio. She became a member of the Rockingham County Amateur Radio Club with operator call sign KI4PRU and enjoyed the interaction both locally and with people from all parts of the world.

Margie was a member of First Baptist Church in Stoneville and loved singing in the choir. In recent years, she was unable to attend church and missed her church family and friends.

In addition to her parents, and husbands, Margie was preceded in death by brothers Timothy Heffinger, John (Jack) Cook, Frank (Tommy) Heffinger, William (Billy) Heffinger; and sisters Juanita Mullins and Rebecca Squires.

Margie is survived by her two loving daughters Denise R. Hirst, Michelle L. Adkins (Pam), her grandsons Alexander T. Hirst, Ean A. Hirst and great granddaughter Madeline. She is also survived by sisters Shirley Surgnier, Patricia Reynolds, Judith Talbert, Jane Turman and sister-in-law Theresa Heffinger along with many nieces and nephews.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Eden PO Box 4628 Eden, NC 27289.

Words cannot express how sad I am that you left us. You were a very special person to me and I hope you knew how much I loved you. I am going to miss you so much and your laugh was so contagious when you were tickled. Reminded me of mom. Tell her I said hello and I hope to see you again someday. I love you Aunt Margie. Prayers for Denise and Michelle and family.

Margie's family have my deepest sympathy! The obituary described her like beautifully. One thing I would like to say add is how generous she was in more ways than monetary. She kept the family together in ways like Tommy did. I swill certainly miss her!
