Eva Mae Snipes Smith, 66, of 10663 Hwy 700 in Pelham, passed away Sunday afternoon, May 1, 2011 at Morehead Memorial Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 4 PM on Saturday, May 7, at Gatewood Baptist Church in Providence, NC. Mrs. Smith was born June 6, 1944 in Lancaster, SC, daughter of Pete Snipes and the late, Susie Reeves Snipes. She is a member of Gatewood Baptist Church and was a retired certified nursing assistant. Surviving are her daughters, Rosanna Smith of Danville, VA and Jacqueline Smith of Asheville, NC; son, Lee Smith of Pelham; father, Pete Snipes of the home; seven grandchildren; sister, Brenda Winn and husband, Buddy of Pelham; special niece, Pamela Loftis of Elkin, NC; and special nephew, Gwynn Lucas and wife, Cheryl of Pelham. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Bobby and Billy Snipes. There will be no formal visitation, however, the family will receive friends at the residence.
