Curtis Glenn Coats, 82, of 128 Drumheller Court in Eden, NC, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at Moses Cone Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Friday, April 29, at Horsepasture Christian Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Coats was born October 28, 1928 in Rutherfordton, NC, son of the late Dock and Susan Smith Coats. He was a retiree of the US Navy after 20 years of service, attaining the rank of First Class Chief Petty Officer. Mr. Coats was a former member of Mountain View Baptist Church in Denver, NC and a current member of Spray Baptist Church in Eden. He was a devoted family man. Surviving is his wife, Gardie Guffey Coats of the home; two daughters, Marie Ballance and husband, Archie, and Glennette Haga and husband, Jerry; three grandsons, Christopher Hodges, Jonathan Haga, Andrew Haga; three great-grandchildren, Nicholas Hodges, Somer Hodges, and Katherine Haga; and brother, Sam Coats. in addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Agnes Harris, Martha Anne Pedersen, Elizabeth Huntley; and brothers, Ben and Thomas Coats. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, 6 - 8 PM at Horsepasture Christian Church and other times at the residence. Memorial contributions may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 6931 Arlington Road, 2nd floor, Bethesda, MD 20814; to Horsepasture Christian Church, 1146 Horsepasture Price Road, Ridgeway, VA 24148; or a charity of the donor's choice. Gardie I am so sorry to hear of Glen's passing HE WILL BE MISSED!!!!!!!!!!!We are so grateful for the time we had to know him, Both of you have beena blessing to us.After one for the snow's Glen called to check on us to see of we needed any thing. with all he was dealing with he always concerned for others.I know he is with the LORD and he is at peace

I know he will be missed by your family. Glennette always talked so lovingly of her Dad. I will pray for your family in this time of sadness. Glenn was a true man of God and a wonderful friend. We will miss his strong faith, encouragement, wisdom and sense of humor.
