William "Curtis" Cochran, Sr., 86, of 702 James Street, passed away Wednesday night, March 16, 2011 at Morehead Memorial Hospital. A graveside service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, March 19, at Danview Cemetery in Eden. Mr. Cochran was born September 27, 1924 in Pageton, WV, son of the late Wallace Windom and Alice Hopkins Cochran. He was a US Army Air Corp veteran. Mr. Cochran was a retiree of Fieldcrest Mills and was the former owner and operator of Draper Curb Market. He was also a retired volunteer fireman for Draper Volunteer Fire Department. Surviving is his wife, Irene Wilson Cochran of the home; daughter, Jean Ray and husband, James of Chattanooga, TN; two sons, William "Bill" Cochran, Jr. and Tim Cochran, both of Eden; step-son, David Haley of Gastonia; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Sylvia Squires of Stokesdale, Lenora Salmons and husband, Doby of Collinsville, VA, Goldie Pruitt of Eden, and Louise Weddle of Eden; sisters-in-law, Estelle Sartin of Burlington and Kathy Funderburk of Eden; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Audrey Funderburk Cochran; and two brothers, Virgil and Kermit Cochran. The family will receive friends Friday evening, 6 - 8 PM at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home of the sons, 1912 Fourth Avenue in Eden. Memorial contributions may be made to Draper Volunteer Fire Department, 1431 Fieldcrest Road, Eden, NC 27288. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.fairfuneralhome.com

I was saddened to hear about Curtis's death. I met him when I was a patient at the Brian Center. He would come and we would play BINGO in the cafeteria. My prayers amd thoughts are with you.
