Mabel Marie Manuel Ferguson Bryant, 88, a loving wife, mother, and homemaker, formerly of Stoneville passed away Saturday February 26, 2011 at Morehead Nursing Center. Funeral service will be held 2 pm Tuesday at Matthews Chapel United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Bryant was born on June 20, 1922 to the late David and Virginia Bolt Manuel. Mrs. Bryant graduated from Stoneville High School Class of 1939, and was a homemaker. She was a Charter member of Matthews Chapel United Methodist Church, Sunday School Teacher for the youth and was first President of United Methodist Women. She was preceded in death by her husbands; Clemon J. Ferguson and George Bryant and sister-in-law; Adina Manuel. Surviving are daughters; Marie Ann Tatum and husband Lonnie of Martinsville, Va. and Shirley F. Shelton of Mayodan, brother; Thomas Dillard Manuel of Stoneville, sister; Betty D. Manuel Thacker and husband Ray of Mayodan, grandchildren; Kelly Hundley, Eddie Shelton and wife Crystal, Donna Tatum, Jeff Tatum and wife Kelly, 8 great grandchildren. A special thanks to the Bayberry Retirement Inn and also to Morehead Nursing Center staff. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 6 - 8 pm at Matthews Chapel and two hours prior to the service. Family will meet at other times at the home of her daughter, Shirley Shelton, 216 N. Fourth Ave, Mayodan. Memorial contributions may be made to Matthews Chapel, 241 Smith Road, Stoneville, NC 27048 or to Hospice of Rockingham County, Po Box 281, Wenthworth, NC 27275. Mabel and I were classmates at Stoneville High School. She was such a nice lady. I was so pleased that I had the opportunity to visit with her again when we had our 50th Class reunion at Clarence Steak house in Ridgeway in 1989. Our prayers go out to all members of her family.
