Gail I'm glad I got to meet you the other day. I'm very sad for you and your family and for Charlie's parents. I know how much he loved you all and he talked about his family and how much they meant to him all the time. I lost a very good friend and one of my Tarheel buddies, we had a lot in common when it came to the tarheels. I know that Charlie is in a better place and he will never have to suffer again and some day we'll all find out why God chose to take him so soon, way to soon............

Charlie was a dear friend of mine & I will always cherish the times that we spent together. In one of the last e-mails that we exchanged he gave me assurance that he was right with the Lord & that he had an awesome testimony to share with others. Some of our greatest times was setting back & talking about the Tarheels in the good & bad days. In the days ahead take time to remember the times that were shared & know that he is safe & secure in the arms of Jesus. We will continue to pray for your family. Tony Porter

Dear Smith Family: I just learned of Charlie's passing today and my thoughts and prayers are with you. I was a classmate of "The Chaz" and went to school with him from 1st thru 12th grades. I moved from the area after graduation and unfortunately had not seen Charlie since our 10 year class reunion. He was a good friend to me when we were growing up. I am sure his fighting spirit will live on in his family. God's blessings as you go through this loss. Hold tight to one another. Respectfully, Jane (Thompson) Brown GWC Class of 1980

I don't think I have ever met any one that knew Charlie that did not like him. I met Charlie in 1991 at Tultex wher I started working as a Tech. He took me under his wing and helped me learn the ropes there. We worked together again at CP Films and at the end here at Miller. We would always laugh about the earlier days at Tultex and the people that we worked with. Please always take comfort in knowing that Charlie loved his family very much and always looked forward to special times together. I am also very happy to see that through the last emails and phone conversations that Charlie will not have to suffer any more but be forever safe with Jesus. Thank you so much for allowing me to share Charlie's life for the time that I knew him.
