Joseph E. “J.E.” Kirks, 87, passed away late Saturday afternoon, March 28, 2020 at Hospice Home of Rockingham County in Reidsville.  

Due to current pandemic as a result of the COVID-19 virus, a private graveside service will be held on Monday, March 30, at 2 p.m. at Mountain View Cemetery in Ridgeway, VA.  Mr. Kirks will lie in state at Fair Funeral Home from 4–6 p.m. on Sunday afternoon and 8a.m.-12 p.m. on Monday prior to the private graveside service. 

Mr. Kirks was born October 9, 1932 in Draper, NC (Eden) to the late Henry and Martha Frazier Kirks.   Mr. Kirks served proudly in the US Army and retired as a machine operator with Georgia-Pacific with over 40 years of service. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Ridgeway, VA.  In his spare time Mr. Kirks enjoyed fishing, sitting on his front porch, and spending time with friends and family. 

He is survived by his daughter, Kathy Scott of Ridgeway; daughter-in-law, Susan A. Kirks of Ridgeway; three grandchildren, Rebekah Vernon (Brandon) of Eden, Bethany Mitchell (Corey) of Roanoke, Christina Coleman of Eden; and six great grandchildren, Lexi, Nathan, Emily, Abigail, Elliott, and Mason.  

He was preceded in death by beloved wife, Alice Thacker Kirks; son, Harold Joseph Kirks; three brothers, Carl, Wallace and Ralph and one sister, Barbara Scearce.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

We are so sorry to hear that J.E. had passed away yesterday. God made the sweetest guy in Joseph and I know that the Lord had a very special place in his heart. We'll miss the times that we had the pleasure to spend with him. He was one of the finest. We will be praying for all the family during this time of sorrow. Thoughts, prayers, and our love.
