James “Jimmy” Monroe Brown, age 65 of 714 West Ave. passed away unexpectedly late Friday night, May 10, 2019 at Moses Cone Hospital.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 in Ridge-View Memorial Gardens with Military graveside rites performed by the Rockingham County Veteran’s Guard and the United States Army Honor Guard.  The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6-8 pm at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home. 

Mr. Brown was born in the Leaksville section of Eden on October 8, 1953 to the late Tuttle Brown and Opal Williams Brown.  He was of the Pentecostal faith.  James loved to sing and play music whenever he had an opportunity.  He always enjoyed talking to his family and friends while having his cup of coffee over breakfast.  He will be greatly missed by all that knew him especially his loving family and his beloved wife.

James is survived by his wife, Shelby Jean Corum Brown of the home, his sons, James Richard Brown and wife, Genia of High Point, NC and Carter Emmitt Brown of Roxboro, NC; one grandchild, Brennen Cohle Brown; brother, Michael “Mike” Brown, Sr. of Eden; nieces and nephews, Mikayla Brown, Michael “Mike” Brown, Jr. and wife, Nina and Josh Hammons and wife, Jennifer; brother-in-law, Guy Hammons; three step-children; 5 step-grandchildren; one step great-grandchild and a large extended family.

Along with his parents, his is preceded in death by his sister, Jenelle Hammons and nephew, Brian Hammons.

Mike, Shelby, and all the family. So stunned to hear about Jimmy as I just talked to him and Shelby a couple of weeks ago. Many memories of Jimmy, Mike, And Jenelle growing up in church together. I know Jimmy is in Heaven with the Lord and his family. Praying for all of you.

It is so hard to believe that this has happened , he will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved him .
