After a long period of sickness, Lawrence Fredrick "Fred" Gaffney, Jr., got his healing on Wednesday, April 24, 2019, when he went home to be with the Lord.

A celebration service will be held at 2 PM on Monday, April 29, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Sunday evening, 6 - 8 PM, at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Fred was born January 26, 1944 in Worthville, NC.  He lived in Bisco and Siler City where he graduated from Jordan-Matthews High School and enlisted in the US Air Force.  Fred played basketball for the Iceland all-stars during a tour of duty.  He often played basketball in the backyard with the neighborhood boys.  He was an avid Duke Blue Devils fan and was a retiree of Proctor & Gamble.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Myrna Gaffney of the home;  son, Reverend Mark Gaffney and his wife, Donna, who Fred called his "real daughter";  two grandchildren, Devin and Derek Gaffney, whom he loved spending time with;  his grand-dog, Palmer, a Boston Terrier, who loved to give him lots of kisses.

Fred had many friends and loved to witness for the Lord.  He has four sisters, Elaine, Karan, Diane and Melea, along with two brothers, Neil and Michael, and is a direct decendant of the founder of Gaffney, SC.

The family would like to thank his caregivers who helped tend to him at home, especially Susan and Valerie of Hospice of Rockingham County.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Springs of Life Camp, 3443 Spring Road, Patrick Springs, VA 24133, where his son, Mark, was called to preach and Fred and his family loved to go and work.  Many young children were saved there.
