Evelyn Blanchard Noblin, 96, passed away Thursday, September 9, 2010 at Morehead Nursing Center in Eden. A funeral service will be held at 3 pm on Sunday, September 12 at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place on Monday at Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh. Mrs. Noblin was born July 11, 1914 in Gates County, NC, daughter of the late Dr. Thomas Washington Blanchard and Sue Hinton Blanchard. She developed a passion for education early in life and was an honor graduate of both Chowan College and the University of North Carolina, where she received a B.A. in Library Science. Mrs. Noblin retired from N.C. State University where she held a position in the Cataloguing Department. Surviving is her brother, Dr. Manfred Blanchard and wife, Beatrice of Eden; nephews, Larry Blanchard of Eden and David Blanchard and wife, Linda of Walnut Cove; two nieces, Ann Miley of Federalburg, MD and Ellen Holtman ; two great-grandnieces; and three great-grandnephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Stuart Noblin, professor of History at N. C. State University; and her sister, Marion Taylor. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service (2 - 3 pm) at Fair Funeral Home and other time at the home of her brother, The famiy would like to thank Dr. Howard and staff, along with the staff of the West Wing of Morehead Nursing Center, where Mrs. Noblin was a resident for four years.
