Cecil "Alvin" Gauldin, 71, of 709 Spring Street, passed away Thursday, September 2, 2010 at his home. There is no formal service, however, family and friends will be gathering at the home of his niece, at 111 Amanda Lane in Eden Saturday afternoon and evening. Mr. Gauldin was born March 2, 1939 in Montgomery County, VA. He was an accomplished pianist, enjoying classical music above all. Mr. Gauldin earned a BS degree from Hofstra University In New York in 1968; a BA and MA through University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1976; and in 1979 received his LLD from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He will be greatly missed by his niece, Sandra Purdy; and nephew, Tom Hodges, both of Eden. Preceding Mr. Gauldin in death was his loving mother, Estelle Crouch. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to NC Division of Services for the Blind, 122 N. Elm Street, Suite 900, Greensboro, NC 27401.
