William Louis Stump, Sr., 86, of 319 S. Center Street, passed away Monday morning, July 5, 2010 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. A graveside service will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, July 7 at Ridgeview Memorial Gardens. Mr. Stump was born October 27, 1923 in Franklin County, Virginia, son of the late John and Maggie Stump. He was a US Army veteran having served in World War II as well as the Korean War. Mr. Stump was a retiree of Fieldcrest Mills. Surviving are his three sons, William Lewis Stump, Jr. and wife, Mae, Samuel John Stump and wife, Janet, and Mark Steven Stump and wife, Renay, all of Eden; daughter, Debbie Blevins and husband, Donald of Danville, VA; three grandchildren, Angela West, Casey Land and Patrick Odell; seven step-grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Robertson Stump. The family received friends Tuesday evening, 7 - 9 pm at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the residence. I am so sorry for the loss of your father, William. I now know what is like to lose a parent. A few years ago I used to call your dad if I couldn't get my dad on the phone. Even with your dad's own health issues he would always check on him. He would also call dad often to see how he was doing as well as my mom before she died.
