Madeline Martin Vernon, 74, formerly of Hwy 87, but most recently of Harris Point, +passed away early Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at Morehead Memorial Hospital. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, June 26, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Ms. Vernon was born July 12, 1935 in Patrick County, Virginia, daughter of the late Crowsey and Minnie Hancock Martin. She was a member of Osborne Baptist Church and was a retired sitter for the sick and elderly. Surviving are her two daughters, Linda Hay and husband, Magdy of New York and Ruth "Charlie" Tonkin and husband, Chuck of Knoxville, TN; two sons, Artie Jones and wife, Kellie of Eden and Jack Jones and wife, Kim of Mayodan; six grandchildren, Michael Woods, Courtney Woods, Jaclyn Jones Thomas, Zachary Dyar, Rachel and Lauren Jones; one great-granddaughter, Alexis Thomas; sisters, Gladys Brown and Joy McDonald of Fieldale, VA, and Gloria Baker of Ridgeway, VA; step-children, Ricky Vernon and Vanessa Vernon. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Vernon; and son, Donnie Ray Jones. The family will receive friends Friday evening, 7 - 9 PM at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home of Artie and Kellie Jones, 442 Greenway Drive in Eden.
