John Dillard Cannon, Sr., 87, of 1551 Quesinberry Road, passed away Wednesday morning, May 12, 2010 at Morehead Memorial Hospital. The funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Friday, May 14, at Draper Christian Church with Reverend Bob Johnson and Reverend Louis Hall presiding. Burial will follow in Danview Cemetery. A native of Rockingham County, Mr. Cannon was born February 18, 1923, son of the late Charlie and Elizabeth Hall Cannon. He was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of Draper Christian Church. Mr. Cannon was a retiree of Fieldcrest Mills. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Hammock Cannon of the home; daughters Mary Anne O'Bryant and husband, Thomas of Livingston, Texas and Elizabeth Hester and husband, Bill of Reidsville; son, John D. Cannon Jr. and wife, JoAnn of Eden; four grandchildren, Janet O'Bryant, Scott O'Bryant, Kathleen Galarza, and Victoria Hale and nine great-grandchildren; and sister, Margaret Cannon of Eden. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Lillie Holley, Mildred Price, Fannie Tate, and Lucy Trollinger. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, 7 - 9 PM at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the residence. Memorial contributions may be made to Draper Christian Church, 1116 Fieldcrest Road, Eden, NC 27288. Online condolences may be offered to the Cannon family at www.fairfuneralhome.com

Dear Cannon family, We are saddened with you at the loss of your loved one but also rejoice that he is now at Home with the Lord. We are so sorry we couldn't be there for the service but have had you in our thoughts and prayers. Mr. Cannon was a special person and was precious to me and my family. He was the kind of person that was impossible to forget and we will miss him greatly. His sense of humor and stories will always be very fond memories to us.
