Helen McDaniel Stewart, 85 of 1593 Town Creek Road, Eden passed away on Saturday afternoon at Morehead Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held 11 am Wednesday the 5th of May at Fair Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Dan River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Helen was born May 2, 1924 in Danville, Va. to the late Joel and Mattie Roach McDaniel. She was a member of the Dan River Primitive Baptist Church and the former owner and operator of Stewarts Store. Surviving are son Ronald " Ronnie" Lee Stewart and wife Sheila of Eden, grandson; Brandon Lee Stewart of Wilmington, sister; Shirley Vaughn and husband Thomas of Texas, numerous neices and nephews. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; Lester Stewart, brother; J.C. McDaniel, and sisters; Madeline Burnette, Margaret Barber, and Gladys Moschler. I would like to express our deepest sympathy in the lost of your Mother. We enjoyed church with her at Goodwill Primitive Baptist for many year and will remember the phone calls she made. My Grandma, Maggie Manuel who went to be with the Lord a few years ago always enjoyed talking with her. She made my "going" away dress and other clothes for me when she was sewing. Our prayer is the Lord will give you peace during this time and in the days to come. I have also submitted this for my Mother, Odessa Thompson, who also enjoyed phone calls and visits from her when she was able. God bless you all.

I'm sorry for y'alls lose. I live down the street, on Town Creek. I don't remember how we met, but we'd see each in the grocery store and she was so happy to see. We'd talk a few minutes and she'd smile and smile. It's going to be so hard not turning onto Town Creek from 14 and not see the clothes hanging on the line or her mowing the yard. I never knew her first name, nor did she known mine. :( She will be missed by so many. As soon as I saw the funeral sign I went to the convience store, where she hung out, to ask what they knew. At that time they didn't have any information. There was a man there and when he heard is talking he said she was a wonderful person, he knew her, I don't now how, he didn't live in the neighborhood. She lived a long life and was something else!!!!! Again, I'm so sorry. peace,ann
