Russell McKinley Taylor, 93, of 281 Michaux Road in Cascade, VA, passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2013, at his home.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, September 20, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Reidsville, NC.

Mr. Taylor was born October 11, 1919 in Fieldale, VA. He was the son of Edward James Taylor and Bertha Wray Taylor. He was a charter member of Willis Memorial Baptist Church where he served as a trustee, a Sunday school teacher and a choir member. Mr. Taylor was also the first ordained deacon in his church. He was a retiree of Southern Railroad.

Surviving is his daughter, Judy T. Alcorn and husband, J. Haywood Alcorn of Ridgeway, VA; two granddaughters, Patricia Dickerson and husband, David, and Cindy LaPrade and husband, Dean; grandson, John Alcorn and wife, Judy; five great-grandchildren, Matthew Alcorn, Sam and Zach Dickerson, Hannah and Sarah LaPrade; sisters, Reaves Taylor of Danville, VA and Beatrice Weddle of Cascade, VA; and a brother, John Taylor and wife, Bonita of Eden, NC.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jettie Smith Taylor; two sisters, Nellie Biggs and Eldean Bumpus; and six brothers, James "Jimmy" Taylor, Robert "Bobby" Taylor, Ralph Taylor, Otis Taylor, Calvin Taylor, and Alfred Taylor.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening, 6:30 - 8 PM, at Fair Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Willis Memorial Baptist Church, 5212 Cascade Road, Cascade, VA 24069 or to Cascade Ruritan, 3458 Huntington Trail, Cascade, VA 24069.

My deepest sympathy for Russell's family. He was a cherished friend and most loved person. How happy I am that he is now where he longed to be - with his Lord and wife. I consider myself most privileged to have known Russell. He was a one of a kind and truly the most humble man I have ever known. God bless each of his remaining family; trusting that you find comfort knowing that he is finally home.
