Richard Oren Slaydon, 87, of 2024 Mill Avenue in Eden, passed away Friday, September 13, 2013, at V.A. Medical Center in Durham. The funeral service will be Monday 11 am at Fair Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow in Danview Cemetery. Mr. Slaydon was born February 17, 1926 in Henry County, VA to the late Daniel Leftridge Slaydon and Ruth Willis Slaydon. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and a member of Meadow View Methodist Church. He also retired from American Tobacco Company as a mechanic, and proudly was Vice-President of TWIU. Surviving are his wife Vivian Overby Slaydon of the home, daughter Ann Slaydon Penn and husband Billy of Ruffin, NC, sister Evelyn Beanblossom of Latter, SC, three grandchildren Kevin Kallam, Matt Kallam and Ben Kallam, six great grandchildren, and many extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 6 until 8pm at Fair Funeral home, and other times at the home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Meadow View Methodist Church, 1004 Friendly Rd. Eden, N.C. or charity of donors choice.
