Mott was born on October 8, 1925 in Badin, North Carolina and was the son of the late Mott Edgar Price Sr. and Blake Clontz Price. He spent his early youth at Barium Springs Home for Children, and the Barium community became his beloved second family. He graduated from Barium Springs High School, and soon after became a recruit of the United States Army and served with honor and pride for eighteen months during World War II in Germany, France, and Austria, where he earned the Bronze Star. Upon his discharge he entered Davidson College where he earned a scholarship to play football and to wrestle. While at Davidson he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and the "D" Club and graduated with a B.S. Degree in 1950. After his graduation, he was hired as a teacher and football coach at Albemarle High School in Albemarle, North Carolina, and worked there until he moved to work at Darlington Preparatory School for Boys in Athens, Georgia as teacher-coach. In 1952 he moved to Eden and worked at Morehead High School as teacher and football coach. He worked with J.C. Honeycutt and Bob Wilkes to coach the 1958 football team to win the only state title for Morehead High School in football in the history of the school. He served as Principal at Draper Elementary and then went back to Morehead High School as Assistant Principal under Mr. Wendell Newlin. In the late 60's he moved into administration at the Central Office and served as Assistant Superintendent of Schools until his retirement in 1993. He retired with 41 years of service for Eden City Schools. He served on the Board of Directors for the Eden YMCA and for the Eden Boys Club. He was an active member of the NEA, the NCAE, and the Retired School Personnel.

In his retirement he enjoyed gardening at home and developed a love for growing roses and special lillies. He traveled with his wife and brother's family on many cruises and to the special sites at the beaches of Normandy, France and to their favorite city of San Francisco, California. His first love was always his family and especially liked having everybody at their lake home at High Rock Lake or at their Tellowee home with all thirty family members present for Christmas. He was active at Leaksville United Methodist Church and was a volunteer for many years for Meals on Wheels in the Eden area.

As a person, Mott reached out with a fierce hand grip to all who knew him and grinned when he got the expected response! He remembered with pleasure the Morehead football championship game played on Thanksgiving Day, 1958, and he had special relationships with the guys who played on that team. He enjoyed having all his kids and grand kids together on any occasion and delighted in hearing all of their current news. He liked riding in a boat on High Rock Lake with his brother's family and just loved "going down to the farm." He liked puttering in the yard at his house and pouring over flower catalogs In order to plan for next year's garden. He was proud of his service in World War II and loved going to Washington D.C. to soak up more of Americas's history. He really believed in education for all kids as a way to help them reach their potential. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, colleague, and friend.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 23 years, Joyce Y. Price; his two daughters: Kim Weaver and husband Grey of Winston-Salem,NC ; Lynne Edwards and husband Mike of Waxhaw, NC; his son, John Price and wife Kara of Concord, NC.; his step daughter, Diane McDowell and husband Sam of Greensboro NC; his sister, Hannah Warren of Apex, NC; his brother Alfred Price and wife Rickie of Salisbury NC; his grandchildren, Erin Weaver Smith, Rebecca Weaver Stewart, Abby Weaver Jackson, Suzanne Edwards O'Dell, Wesley Edwards, Ian Edwards, Esther Edwards, Avery Price, Kenzie Price, Claire McDowell; his great grand children, Dylan Stewart, Wyatt O'Dell.

Mott Price was my history teacher and coach at Morehead High School in the early/mid 1960s. He was the real deal. Too bad there aren't a lot more teachers, and people, like him.

Today, people that knew Mott Price are saddened with this loss of such a loving and caring person. He was a great inspiration to many that he made contact with, and was such an encourager for all. Such a icon for people to model life after. I send my prayers and love for comfort during this time in your life, but the precious memories and personal moments will be the real treasures you hold on to in life.

Wishing you Joyce and all your family comfort as you all heal from your loss. Having had the opportunity to know both of you over the years was a pleasure and although I had not seen either you Joyce or Mott lately, I feel fortunate that I was able work with you both early in your relationship photographing your wedding. May Mott rest in peace.

To The Family: It was with great sorrow that I read of Mr. Prices passing. My Mother, (Margret Grant) worked at the Morehead cafeteria for many years and was always very close to Mr. Price. Mr. Price and Mr. Newlin never let the Grant family out of their sight because of their friendship with Mother. Mr. Price was a good man and will be surely missed. My condolences and prayers are with the family.

Dear Joyce, I didn't know where you were, and I don't recall meeting Mott. I am thinking of you at this difficult time, and realizing that more and more we must be thankful of the days we enjoy. time seems short. One lady at my church said "days are long, but years are short". Love and Blessings from the Father, and myself. Been in High Point, my 18th home for 9 years now. Danny

Coach Price had a positive influence on so many people that grew up in Eden and as many of those people relocated the values instilled by Coach Price have spread. I was a member of the '58 football team, and have always been amazed at how 3 coaches convinced us to be a team and play beyond our capabilities. Coach Price will be missed. Our prayer are with you, his family.

As president of the Barium Springs Alumni Association I offer my sincerest condolences to the family. As you may recall I married into the Barium family in 1983. I continue to be amazed by the character of all my adopted siblings. Mott was my hero having been a veteran of the "Great War." As great as his sacrifice during those dark days was, his life is much more impressive than that. To give one's life to preparing others to live successfully is one of man's greatest fields of endeavor. All the Barium family will miss him terribly. Please accept my personal regrets. I pray that God will wrap you, family, in His loving arms and give you the peace that only He can provide. May you find comfort in knowing that Mott is now in the arms of His Lord Jesus Christ, waiting for his loved ones to join him.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Coach Prices passing today. He had a profound impact on me as a student and former football player from 1958 through 1961 at Morehead High as my coach and teacher and through out my life. All of us that we're impacted by Coach Price during our journey through life were much the better for having him in our lives. I admired and respected Mr. Price as much as anyone I've ever known. My condolences and prayers to the family. We will all miss him. Clarence Rogers
