G. Wilford Radford, Sr., 81, of 605 Overby Street in Eden, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2013, at his home.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, September 22, at First Church of the Brethren. Burial will follow in Danview Cemetery with military rites to be performed by Rockingham County Veteran's Honor Guard.

Mr. Radford was born October 12, 1931 in Draper, NC. He was the son of the late Eldridge Gabriel Radford and Lucy Stallings Radford. Mr. Radford was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran. He was a lifetime member of First Church of the Brethren and served as church treasurer for many years. He was a former member of the Eden Lions Club. Mr. Radford was a retiree of Vanier Graphics, working over 30 years as a pre-press supervisor. He also worked for nine years for Spray Water, Power and Land Company.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret "Peggy" Young Radford of the home; son, George W. Radford, Jr. and wife, Leanna of Havelock, NC; daughter Lori R. Bailey and husband, Bryant of Eden; five grandchildren, Meghan Radford, Anna Radford, Meredith Radford, Mark Bailey and Matthew Bailey; brother, Paul Grady Radford and wife, Zenella of Catharpin, VA; sisters, Elaine Burchett and husband, John of Eden and Sibyl Beaver and husband, Junius of Madison; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Cox and brother, Eldridge Radford, Jr.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening, 6 - 8 PM at First Church of the Brethren. Memorial Donations can be made to First Church Of The Brethren: 730 Church St., Eden, NC 27288.

Dear Peggy and family: I am so sorry to hear about Wilford's death. I worked with him for 10 years at Vanier Graphics Corp. He was a kind and always patience Christian man and he never said an unkind word about anyone. He was a great Management leader and did a lot for the company. I enjoyed working for him for many years in the pre-press department. He was a true friend for a long time and he leaves fond memories to so many here on earth. He had a heart of gold that few men have. I know you and your family will truly miss him here on earth. May God give you comfort and peace at this time of sorrow of your loss of a great man in your life.
