Samuel Eugene Benton, 71, of Eden, passed away Friday, October 1, 2021, at his home with his loving family surrounding him.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 9, 2021, at 3 pm at Fair Funeral Home Chapel with family receiving friends one hour prior to the service. Military Honors will be rendered by the U.S. Air Force and the Rockingham County Veterans Honor Guard.

Samuel was born January 6, 1950 in Leaksville to the late Milton Ray and Rozella Ayers Benton, Sr. He was a 1968 graduate of Morehead High School and then attended North Trident Technical College in Charleston, S.C. graduating with an Associates Degree in Horticulture Science. He served in the United States Air Force and then went on to work in Civil Service in Charleston Air Force Base for 10 years. After his military service, he returned to Eden and worked at Pannell Knitting, and then retired from Goodyear Tire Company Plant in Danville, Va.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Deborah (Saul) Benton of the home; son Samuel Elliott and wife Christie Benton of Eden; two grandchildren, Dawson and Peyton Benton; special nephew, Lee Benton and Family. Also survived by other nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Rockingham County.

Debbie I am just finding this out, I don't go online much at all, my heart is so heavy now I am so sorry for your loss now the whole family is back together morning. I have so many fond memories of Sammy from when I was a child, I always compare them three boys to the Cartwright's, and Sammy being hoss, again I am so so sorry for your loss my condolences to you and El, and the entire family. for anyone not knowing Sammy's mother and my mother were sisters.
