Paul L. Prewitt Sr., 101, of Eden, another WWII veteran has claimed the promise of the resurrection and rests at the feet of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Mr. Prewitt passed away on Monday, August 30, 2021 at his residence. 

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 4, 2021 at Fair Funeral Home Chapel; followed with full military honors on the front lawn by the U.S. Army and the Rockingham County Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 Friday, September 3rd. 

Burial will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 5th at Mount Comfort Cemetery in Alexandria, V.A.

Paul was a quiet, distinguished gentleman who loved his friends and family deeply with an abundant portion of caring and generosity. Paul experienced The Great Depression, two and one half years in the service in the U.S. Army in North Africa, Sicily and France during WWII.

The rest of his career he devoted in service to The Department of Labor of the U.S. Government.

He was active in local churches where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and finance and choir member, among other duties.

Paul was honored in receiving many awards, including being presented with the Knight of the National Order of the Legion of Honor from France for his service during WWII and most recently The Order of the Long Leaf Pine and many commendations by the government.

 He was preceded in death along with his parents, W.A. Prewitt and Stella Barnett; his wife, Betty Fiero Prewitt and brother, Brady; a casualty of Pearl Harbor during the start of WWII.

 He is survived by his one son, Paul Leahmon Prewitt, Jr. and wife, Camilla; grandchildren Cullen (Amy) Prewitt and Jeremy (Jamee) Prewitt; and long time companion and friend, Susie Prior.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rockingham County Veterans Honor Guard, 4655 Price Road; Stoneville, N.C. 27048 or to First Baptist Church, 533 Greenwood Street, Eden, N.C. 27288.

Family we are so sorry for your loss we pray for you during this difficult time. Our motorcycle group met Sir Paul Prewitt and Susie back in May at Nancy's Candy store in Meadows of Dan VA. such a great opportunity to meet and him from him his stories. We will never forget him. I’m so very sorry for loss Susie. Paul was such a joy to see and talk to when he came into Eden Drug where I work. Seeing him come in was such a joy to me. He was such a kind a humble man. I feel honored to have met Paul. And you Susie was such a a try blessing to him. Sir Paul was a Incredible man. I’m out of town and want make his funeral and I so hate that. Susie u are in my thoughts and prayers. Paul’s picture and write up about him being knighted still hangs on my fridgerater. He had a wonderful life and now he is walking the streets of gold.
