James “Charles” McGuire, 83, passed away Thursday, April 22, 2021, at his home.

A graveside service will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, April 25th, at McGuire Family Cemetery in Axton, VA. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the cemetery.

Born April 27, 1937 in Henry County, Virginia, Charles was the son of the late James Clay Harris and Viola McGuire. He was a US Army veteran and a retired wallpaper hanger.

He is survived by his seven children, Susan Moore of Eden, NC, Jan McGuire-Starke (George) of Axton, VA, James “Chuck” McGuire, Jr. of New Bern, Brian Keith McGuire of Axton, VA, Marie Ward (Jimmy) of Eden, Sandra Corns (David) of Horsepasture, VA and Lynne Cherry (Bill) of Ridgeway, VA; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; brother James Harris; and sister, Cathy Harris.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Maxine DeHart McGuire; son, Walter Samuel “Sammy” Pyrtle, Jr.; brothers, Merit “Bill” McGuire and Mike Harris; and sister, Edna Bridges.

To All The Family of Charles, a fine man has gained his wings. He certainly put up a battle. But God had other plans. I know him & Maxine are walking hand and hand in their beautiful Heavenly Home. My heart aches for each of you, but remember, he was a Veteran, husband, father, grandfather, & great grandfather, and there's no doubt in my mind, he loved each of you dearly!!!
