George Alfred Vernon, 93, passed away January 19, 2021 at UNC Rockingham Nursing Center.

A graveside service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. The service will be live-streamed on Facebook live for those unable to attend.  Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, please wear face coverings and honor social distancing guidelines.  Alfred will lie in repose on Friday, January 22, 2021 from 12 noon – 6:00pm at Fair Funeral Home.

Alfred was born May 11, 1927 in Rockingham County  to the late Richard Franklin Vernon and Annie Soyars Vernon.  Mr. Vernon was a member of the Dan River Wesleyan Church.  He retired with 30 plus years of service from Duke Power where he was in the Coal Handling Department.  He loved to repair lawn mowers for resale.

He is survived by three daughters:  Deborah Cochran (Barry), Rhonda Nance (Garland) and Lisa Mays (Tim), all of Eden; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren;

In addition to his parents, Alfred was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Thomasson Vernon, a daughter Linda Clumm, Brothers:  James Vernon and Carl Turner, Sisters:  Nellie Bray, Eva Lunsford and Rhumell Domina.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dan River Wesleyan Church, 191 Dan River Church Road, Eden, NC  27288 and Hospice of Rockingham County (Gibson House) PO Box 281, Wentworth, NC  27375

I’m so sorry for the loss of Alfred. I haven’t thought of him in several years but I remember he was always so friendly and had a smile on his face. He loved tinkering with his mowers . May God bring comfort to your family.
