James “Jimmy” Wayne Hodges, 77, passed away early Sunday morning, January 10, 2021, at UNC-Rockingham Health Care in Eden.

A graveside service will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, January 13, at Lawson Cemetery. He will lie in repose at Fair Funeral Home on Tuesday afternoon from 12 Noon to 6 PM for those wishing to come by to pay their respects.

Born April 7, 1943 in Rockingham County, NC, Jimmy was the son of the late James William Hodges and Ruby Gilley Hodges.  He was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church and a retiree of American Tobacco Company.  Jimmy was a friendly, kind-hearted man who loved to sit on his front porch and wave at everyone.  He was known fondly, to many, as the “Candy Man”, as he enjoyed handing out candy to folks, just to bring a smile to their faces.

He is survived by his daughter, Robin Hodges Baker of Eden; son Eric Hodges (Cami) of Fredricksburg, VA; and two grandchildren, Michael and Ethan Hodges.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Ann Hensley Hodges.

The service was beautiful wish we could have been there, but I have bronchitis and didn't think I should come out around yall. We wanted yall to know yall are in our prayers and thoughts and Robin remember we are right out the road. We were fortunate and honored to be neighbors and friends for 31 years with your Mom and Dad! They were wonderful neighbors all of our neighbors helped make this a safe neighborhood for our boys and for me when Bobby was called in at night for snow, hurricanes, and water leaks in the middle of the night, and the boys having a dry front porch while waiting on the bus. We are here for you ,but God is always just call on him he will comfort you and remember he doesn't make mistakes we are only here for a short time. So honored to have been on this earth with a kind loving man as Jimmy. He will be truly missed!
