Garvin Franklin Rieson, 88, passed away early Thursday morning, August 27, 2020, at Jacob’s Creek Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Madison.

A graveside service will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, September 3, at Overlook Cemetery.  Military rites will be performed by the Rockingham County Veteran’s Honor Guard.

Born May 28, 1932 in Spray, NC, Garvin was the son of the late Lee Payne Rieson and Susie Chatman Rieson.  He was a US Army veteran who served during the Korean War and was a retired residential painter.

He is survived by his three daughters, Donna Rieson Strickland of Lexington, Marie Smithers of Madison and Patricia “Cissy” Pinkleton of Eden; son, Jimmy Rieson of Ridgeway, VA; nine grandchildren, Bobby Strickland, Curtis “Punkin” Hodge, Jason Hodge, Stephanie Smith, Tasha Emerson, Angel Barrier, Selina Farabee, Laura Wright and Milton Strickland, Jr.; 30 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Pratt Rieson; son, Garvin Rieson, Jr.; daughter, Mary Rebecca Rieson; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., FI. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
