Jesse "J. W." Walter Manuel, Jr., 76, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2020, at UNC-Rockingham Health Care in Eden.  

 

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Friday, January 31, at Draper Pentecostal Holiness Church with burial to follow in Danview Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service (1 - 2 PM) at the church.

 

Mr. Manuel was born February 21, 1943 in Draper, NC, to the late Jesse Walter Manuel, Sr. and Nina Mills Manuel.  He was a graduate of Morehead High School, Class of 1962 and a graduate of East Carolina University where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity.  J. W. was a retiree of Cumulus Fibres.  He enjoyed visiting people and was always very sociable.

 

He is survived by his wife, Paula Richardson Manuel of the home;  brother, Dale Manuel (Frankie) of Jamestown;  sisters-in-law, Paige Frye (Eddie) and Edie Manuel (Dwight, deceased); nieces, Kelli Frye Lusk, Jennifer Flynt (Scotty) and Alyson Linder (Scott);  special great-nieces and nephews, Joey Lusk and Abigail Lusk.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dwight Manuel and nephew, Christopher Manuel.

Paula, I was so sorry to see that J.W. had passed away. You and I worked together at the Mental Health Center many years ago. I remember meeting J.W. He was such a friendly guy and so very tall. I will be praying for you that God will give you comfort and peace in the days and weeks ahead.
