Phyllis Carter O’Dell, 68, a long-time resident of Ridgeway, Virginia, died September 11, 2019, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.  Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends.
A Memorial Service to Celebrate the life of Phyllis O'Dell will be held 11 am Saturday at Fair Funeral Home Chapel in Eden,NC.
Phyllis was born November 6, 1950, in Roanoke, Virginia to the late Junior Carter and Ruby Gibson Roberts and her husband James Roberts.  She became a Licensed Practicing Nurse through Martinsville Memorial Hospital’s nursing program.  True to her caring nature, she held a long career as a pediatric nurse, and performed the often thankless job of chasing children with needles.
Despite many challenges early in life through no fault of her own, Phyllis maintained an endearing disposition, a wonderful self-deprecating sense of humor, and a heart of gold.  Phyllis enjoyed visiting the mountains and beaches, especially the Smoky Mountains in North Carolina and Tennessee, and the beaches of South Carolina.  She loved to go shopping, and routinely bought thoughtful gifts for her loved ones all year round.  She also enjoyed crafts, and everyone liked getting the heart-warming “hand-made with love” greetings from Phyllis for any and all occasions.  She was the sweetest daughter, wife, Mom, and Nana, and she will be dearly missed.
Phyllis is survived by her husband of 47 years, Sandy; their daughter and son with their spouses, Wendy and John DiNonno, and Jeff and Amy O’Dell; their three grandchildren, Olivia, Sophia, and Evangeline; her sister, Shirley Volk; Sandy’s mother, Virda; her niece and nephew, Glenda Bryant and Richie Volk, and a very cherished extended family.
At her request, in lieu of flowers and in honor of her beloved Yorkies, please donate to the SPCA of Martinsville-Henry County (http://www.spcamhc.org/form/donate).
